Gran's Summerplace by Ros Stallcup

Gran’s Summerplace is here and it is beautiful. Ros has created a book filled with fresh inspiring designs. Starting with a beautifully painted french Rooster that is a perfect decorative accent to a home interior. Sunflowers dance across a wooden brush tote and sun kissed mums and bittersweet are painted across a black canvas tote, yummy designs. Fresh strawberries a blue currants, lush and red are painted on a black tin tray and tea pot, just delicious. Remember your days at the seashore by painting designer style shells on canvas’s rimmed in a copper/gold. A seagull near the shore with a shell and seagrass is painted on a picnic basket, perfect for that summer outing or to store treasures or knitting in. Ros has also painted a canvas looking out a seaside window to the gentle waves beyond. Delicate roses and ribbons and a stand of pearls garnish the surface of a small memory chest, tray and wooden card file tote. Lush red poppies lacing a garden hat are painted on a lovely door crown, and poppies and ribbon find their way onto a large tin pail that is the perfect decorative accent. Simple Elegance by Susan Scheewe Brown

Acrylic & Watercolor. Susan’s newest book is beautiful. There are a variety of subjects using acrylic and watercolor. If you prefer watercolor you can translate the same project that is done in acrylic, and the same is true if you prefer acrylic you can translate the project from watercolor to acrylic. The techniques for acrylic and watercolor are very similar. Susan has experimented with a few new compositions in a fresh and contemporary way in this book. To entice you to pick up your brush Susan has created a soft french blue window adorned with a window box spilling with flowers in violets, blues and creams and a few touches of pink, this project has quickly become a favorite. Luminous Koi fish float in an indigo pond, so realistic it feels as though you can reach out and touch one, this is my personal favorite. A wooden garden basket lushly spills over with olive branches, artichoke and an eggplant, this would make a elegant kitchen painting. A conch shell and a starfish, each on their own decorator canvas are painted in a textured contemporary style. A stately light house aglow in the colors of sunset, bring back memories of that visit to the ocean. Two wine bottles and a glass of red wine a painted in a classic still life on a country board and also inside of a wooden wine box, a perfect gift for the wine lover in your life. Soft pink roses so delicate and tender you can almost smell their sweet scent. Sun kissed grass blades gently arch upward as they embrace crisp white daisies, and blue bachelor buttons in a fresh painting. Iris in full bloom in a close up composition reveal their soft a delicate violet blue petals in this classic favorite. An orange poppy in full bloom graces a canvas in a close up painting. Soft green ferns drape across small square canvas’s a great home accent. An elegant silhouette of trees with distant hills in a landscape setting is a different approach to a painting that is a great beginner project with fabulous results. You will not be disappointed in this book, it is great.

A scene from days gone by, a horse carriage a sleigh make their way to a snow covered church as the warm glow from inside welcomes those in. A rock wall with an arched gateway, covered in flowers pink, soft blue and violet beckons you to the light beyond in a richly painted scene. Deer grazing in a meadow near a cottage white gazebo and stream at the end of the day is serene and quiet. A enchanted Cotswold type cottage nestled in beautiful blooming flowers sits near a stone bridge and stream with 3 elegant swans gracefully swimming in the water. A snowy winter sunrise scene, along a ponds edge two deer drink with a pink hued snow capped mountain and log cabin reflecting the warm glow of a golden fire inside. Mountain Scene and Tipis, captures a quiet moment at sunset as the tipis are pitched along the waters edge with a snow capped mountain in the distance. One of may favorite paintings, at dusk a classic white lighthouse shines its light out to sea and towards a clipper ship with sails full mast as the crisp blue waves crash at its base. Tulips announce springs arrival in a delicate pink painted with crisp white narcissus and pink primrose in a fresh blue planter. Red tulips with luminous yellow narcissus and yellow primrose spring from a weathered clay planter in this delightful painting. Luscious, red geraniums in weathered clay pots, and red geraniums paired with violet, purple petunias are vibrant and a classic favorite. Plump blueberries spill from weathered clay pots in violets and blues. Sunflowers golden and bright like the sun are always a favorite subject. This is just a taste of the truly beautiful paintings in this book of Susan’s. This books is also a companion to a series of the Scheewe Art Workshop.

Morning Glow is alive with summers promise, a golden wash of color spills across the ground of this tree lined moment, spattered with rosy pink flowers. Snow reflects the blue and violet of a fresh winters day in Winters Frost, clean birch trees and evergreens, distant mountains and a quiet blanket of snow make this painting a tranquil, picturesque scene. Winter Walk is another favorite painting, a majestic snow laden mountain bathed in the crisp light of winter stands tall against a foreground of snow covered evergreens that open to gentle path. Rocky Shoreline is a meditative, calm rock laden shoreline that is still and beautiful in the washes of color and texture the composition creates. Days End, if only all day ends could be so glorious and color filled, warm pink and peach tones fill the sky and reflect off the water in this warm summer moment.
